Non-target Polish school, KPMG Transaction Services Intern, chances to break to IB in London?

Hi all,

I study Finance and Accounting at the top Polish university and I'm also doing an internship at KPMG, in TS team. I really want to go for a BB IB Summer Analyst position in London. I also consider MM, PE or anything related to M&A.

I know it's hard to achieve anything in London IB without a great, known school, but I'm gonna try anyways. Feel free to point out any mistakes and tell me what to improve.

Cheers!

putting lines in like "97% of funds were accurately accounted for" makes you look like a clown. taking CV advice far far too literally - DING

From a macro perspective, you have as much as a shot at getting the position as the drive you have to obtain it. Networking will be very crucial for this move, so utilize whatever resources you have (via school, employment connections, LinkedIn, and so on).

Hi olekskw, Im interested to know more about the TS team to assess whether it could be a suitable path for me. Would appreciate if you could share with me more details about your internship i.e. a. The type of work in TS and how different TS is from audit b. Daily tasks or assignments and challenges faced. Would be good to know also what is usually expected from an associate level. c. The deal/engagement flow i.e is it continuously busy or there are downtimes. And do we need to assist on proposals to bid for new engagements? d. How much of research work is needed when on a TS engagement e. How much travel when on engagements

Thank you very much.

vchl, I'll answer you in private message.

Thanks for your tips. 1) chimpout, so what can I write there? I followed the 'try-to-make-it-quantitive' advice. 2) how can I emphasis my TS internship? It's related, somehow, to M&A and it can be my leverage.

Also, a few things about this:

  • I've just started my MSc, therefore I don't have a clue about my GPA - how to put this? not applicable?
  • I have 3.9/5.0 from my BSc. I know it's not that good, but here in Poland grades don't matter at all, job experience does. How can I put this, so recruiter won't think I'm nothing but lazy as hell?
  • Let's assume I don't have any connections - is applying via careers sites and cold e-mailing worth a shot?
