Opinion of Certificates on Resumes (for students)

Hi WSO I need some advice:

I'm a rising sophomore at a non-target school and plan on applying to different IB and Equity or Credit research internships later this year. I wanted to ask if having the Bloomberg Market Concepts and ESG certificates on my resume would add a lot of value or is it unnecessary?

I have a few extra-circulars I can put on my resume so I don't need the certificates to take up space but I was curious if they would add a lot of value to it?

Appreciate any advice!

Doesn’t make a difference.

  1. Highly doubt it’ll ever come up in an interview much less be the deciding factor for HR in a resume drop. Would be better to highlight other stuff/flesh out your bullet points.
  1. Bankers that lead recruitment probably completed those as a requirement for a 100-level Finance course or for admission into an investment fund in undergrad and know that the content there is mostly BS.
  1. Unless you know absolutely nothing about simple macro, valuation, and markets then those 8 hours are better spent doing something else.

Tagging along with the thread, would you say this applies to all learning courses?

Forage do a bunch of virtual work experience courses, and whilst they are not super helpful, they are for sure better than nothing for those early in their education. As someone who is going to be applying to spring weeks shortly, I feel like they give me a slight edge (at a minimum they show interest). Do you think it's okay just to have them on LinkedIn?

I've also completed a bunch of algorithmic trading courses where I have learned some really helpful programming / finance skills. I've created projects (found on my LinkedIn) to showcase what I've learned, but I feel like a recruiter isn't going to bother to check unless I mention them somehow on my CV (a learning course pretty much does this).

Basically - Will recruiters bother to look at LinkedIn, or are these courses just a waste of time outside of the actual knowledge learned?

Sorry for the late reply here but not too sure about the European recruitment process. Those are good to keep on - was more focused on the Bloomberg certification and select financial modeling courses (CFI specifically)
