Political Party Positions on Resume?

As long as it wasn't with the National Socialist German Workers' Party I don't see why it should be a problem.

Or, should I instead say something a bit more vague like "PR Director of a popular campus political group"? I know it's a good idea to not be controversial on your resume, but I also know it's good to be clear and concise

I had a similar position in college and put it directly on my resume. Never hurt in interviews and actually brought up some good conversations. Probably helped that it was a republican organization though as I'm guessing most bankers lean right.

Yes, definitely. Hopefully the interviewer isn't shallow enough to ding you based on your experiences/affiliation with a political party, and if they are, then fuck em. As the above said as well, finance types are going to be leaning your way anyway so maybe it counts as a bonus point. Its not like youre interviewing for a position at Starbucks... are you?

I would go ahead with it but only because you are so heavily involved. If you were just a member of some club or something I would leave it off. Maybe only put the most prestigious sounding role on there? I'm about as far to the right as one gets on most issues but if your resume made you sound like Sarah Palin, or Glenn Beck, that would be a definite no. Regardless of whether I agree with your politics, I don't want some loon who i think might forward me Obama conspiracy theories all day.

I would definitely put it on. I worked for a state senator doing legislative policy advising and it definitely adds to "ballerness"on your resume.

I'm going generic on my resume for my activist organizations. Unless it is something that "everyone" supports, then why risk it? I'm not even putting LGBT activism stuff on there in any form.

And I would say that many at BBs, especially at the most senior levels, are pretty liberal. I work on the same floor as a BB's top brass and besides the CEO and one of the VC's everyone here's pretty liberal.

Assuming most people on Wall Street, especially the guys at the top, are Republicans is a mistake that could ding you big time. More of the BSDs are flaming libs than you know. You should include the info because it sounds like you've accomplished things in that arena, but don't be a dick about it and don't be surprised when you encounter some raised eyebrows, or downright derision. It's not an accident that Obama's largest campaign donor was Goldman Sachs.

I'd say 60/40 republican, but most of the people I interact with are just disenchanted conservatives - ie hate George Bush.

Edmundo's right, most senior guys on the street are pretty hardcore liberals.

If it's a nationally recognized organization, put it on your resume, but be prepared to defend it - people are willing to hire someone they disagree with, but only if they think you're intelligent enough to understand the issues, and not simply disagreeing because you think Obama is a terrorist.
