Recent college grad looking to switch careers....am i nuts?
Hi everyone,
I recently discovered this site and am hoping for an honest assessment about my chances of switching careers into finance or consulting. I've had a pretty itinerant work history, and will be turning 25 in a month and am undergoing a classic quarter-life crisis. So far, I have only been using my CV for NGO jobs, but I really need to cut out the fat for a quality one-page resume for an entry-level position. I'm dedicated to learning, taking classes, whatever I need to get my foot in the door (especially seeing as how I didn't take a single business class in college). I'd like to do an internship, even if I'm with other college students but most don't allow recent graduates. Right now, I'm thinking about going to one of the summer business institutes (UChicago, Dartmouth Bridge) and possibly buying a package from one of those advising services. Anyway, I appreciate any advice about what direction to go from here, or my chances with a certain company/program. Thanks!
Have you tried networking your way yet? Finding people in the industry associated with the NGO?
Shot you a PM.
Banking requires no skills, so yes it can be done in theory, but you're a long shot.
I definitely was pre-med but after graduating and pursuing work in development, I had a change of heart and want to get my feet wet in finance to eventually pursue emerging markets and banking opportunities in for-profit development. I realize I'm a longshot, so is it worth it to go to one of those expensive summer business institutes? Also, I can't submit that 2-page CV right? I need to shorten it to a quality 1-page resume?
See about getting yourself into any kind of master's program. It will give you a nice reset.
what kind of masters programs? sorry for the shameless bump...
i think you would have a good shot at the top MBA programs. you can transition to finance/consulting from there.
