Resume Advice - Currently sophmore at mid/low tier NESCAC

I am currently a sophomore at a mid/low tier NESCAC. In the long run I would like to work as a trader. I have no finance experience so I am desperate to obtain an internship this summer in NYC in anything finance related. I will be networking hard over break to help with this (currently have 6 meetings set up). To give a little more background information, my extracurriculars include varsity football, math tutor for middle school kids, fraternity member, Micro-Finance club, and I will also be looking to join finance and investing clubs. I was wondering if only listing my major gpa which is currently a 3.5 in math is acceptable or if its mandatory that I list my cumulative gpa which is currently 3.2?

You can use the math major GPA of 3.5, but you must specify. For example, Major GPA: 3.5. As for the cumulative GPA, rule of dumb is anything > 3.0 is acceptable to put on your resume. Definitely milk the varsity football thing. Ton of athletes on the street, especially in S&T. As for affirmative action, I do not think it helps either way because it is illegal for any firm to ask you what your race is, and even if you tell them they can't take that information into account when deciding if they want to give you an offer. You're only a soph, so I wouldn't worry too much about obtaining something exactly related to trading, so take whatever you can get. However, when applying for BB SA positions next year, definitely make sure that 3.2 GPA increases, continue with the clubs, and hopefully you will get an internship this summer that you can put on your resume. Hope this helps, GL

Thanks a lot. My GPA will continue to rise as I have dedicated myself a lot more to my studies.

Hamilton is a whole different ball game from Williams/Amherst.
How much of a difference would you say there is? What % increase would there be in obtaining a job on the street from going to a school such as Williams or Amherst compared to Hamilton.

Not something I can quantify.

I think I know a guy who manages a 3b fund who went to hamilton, so it's not impossible. I think it's certainly a non target, but, that isn't the end of the world.

In the past year alone several people have went on to obtain a job in banking. So while I don't consider Hamilton a huge target school, I certainly consider it to be semi-target. http://www.hamilton.edu/careercenter/outcomes/2011/career-outcomes-area…

Large difference, Amherst/Williams are the two top LACs, Hamilton doesn't crack the top 15. If banks don't conduct on campus interviews for front office positions then its a non-target.
