Resume as a 2nd year analyst, how to not be repetitive

Hi everyone,

I am just about to finish my 2nd year in IB. Starting to look for exits and as I’m updating my resume I’m trying not to be repetitive about some of my deal experience when describing my responsibilities. Any tips on how to not be repetitive if most of my responsibilities are the same throughout each deal? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would consider restructuring the segment. People don’t like wasted space in CVs.

Rather than Specific (deal) > General (roles, tasks) as a list of deals, think about writing it as General (section about typical roles, responsibilities, tasks) and then add sub-bullets on Specifics (deals).

This format was what I used to go from MM IB to MF GE. Example below, hope it helps.

“Analyst within X team, supporting senior deal makers on A, B, and C…..

Closed and pending transactions include:

  • Advised Y on its sale to Z (MMM-YY)
  • Advised P on its purchase of M (….”

Doesn’t change my advice. Not everything you put in the overview section has to relate to every and each deal. It’s largely a catch-all for the things you did during your tenure. You can then speak to specific deals if asked about select skills/tasks
