Resume review, semi-target school
Hey everyone, so I'm a math/statistics double major at Stony Brook University. I say it is semi-target, since it isn't an Ivy, however Goldman Sachs, Citibank, Bank of America, and numerous other financial institutions, consulting firms, and hedge funds recruit at it.
I'm working on a resume for when I begin applying to summer internship programs over the next couple of weeks. I'm not entirely sure what to include/what not to include, and how to word different things. I know the format isn't so great, I'll work on that later - right now I'm concerned about the content.
Thanks ahead of time for the feedback,
Luke
Absolutely has to be one page, interests section should not be more than 1-2 lines, use the M&I template. That said, you should be able to land something with your strong GPA.
M&I format, one page, results-oriented descriptions, nice gpa, don't know how I feel about bitcoin and "investing" in DDD and SSYS
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't sure about bitcoin either, I only have a small amount of money in it for practicing currency trading. When I cut down on the interests section like calicanadian said, I'll just eliminate the names and say I've put a little money into the markets or something like that.
Also, for the research I did quite a bit of work with data and programming (mostly in R, used a lot of excel). Should I write that under the description or is the field too unrelated to finance?
Definitely cut down to one page, I'm at a target and after walking away from career offices today they really emphasized that.
I don't understand how you managed to get a 3.96 in Math yet could only come up with this.... 1. Go over to the M&I site and read/understand the ideas behind their resume template and please come back with a revised copy. We can help more after that. 2. How did you think it was ok that you dedicate more space to elaborating on your interests than your professional work experience?
Delete your trading section. It is wrong on so many levels and will no one will take it seriously
Make one page, split sections with lines.
You can include "your resume might as well incorporate substance about yourself, for example, your full name, birthday, location, contact number, instructive foundation, workshops (if fundamental or pertinent to occupation), accomplishments, abilities and work experience. Most people are sorry to say they need work experience on the grounds that they haven’t had any. It doesn’t essentially imply that if the work experience is unfilled that you aren’t proficient in obtaining employment!
A significant tenet is to be completely forthright! Don’t make up work experience since when you do get got, you’re no doubt not set to get the occupation and likewise be known as an unscrupulous individual. Recall that a resume is not a work history. It is an opportunity to show executives that you have the vital abilities to be capable for the employment."
