Resume Section Order?

Hey guys, I’m a senior graduating soon and had a question about the resume section order.

For reference, I come from non to low semi target but was lucky enough to land a top EB analyst role, and heard that in these cases it might be better to now flip the education and work exp section so the latter is in top.

Haven’t seen too many resumes from other people already working so was wondering if this was common. Thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the order of your resume sections should reflect your current status and highlight the most relevant experience. Here's the general guideline:

  1. If you are still in school: Education should come first, as it is the most relevant section for recruiters.
  2. If you are graduating soon and have secured a top EB analyst role: Your work experience should now take precedence. Place your Professional Experience section at the top, as it demonstrates your ability to secure and excel in a highly competitive role. This is especially important since you’ve already landed a top EB analyst position, which is a significant achievement.
  3. Other sections: Skills, certifications, and extracurricular activities should follow, with interests or additional information coming last.

This approach ensures that recruiters immediately see your most impressive and relevant qualifications without having to search for them.
