Resume that explains non-traditional background
I'd appreciate any advice on my resume construction--specifically, my main points are how to effectively communicate my non-traditional work/school timeline, and my post-MBA short term positions without looking like a job-hopping flake. I have good explanations which I can easily convey in an interview, but the issue seems to be landing an interview at the moment...
My story:
After high school I went to a trade school and worked as a mechanic/operating engineer. I was pretty successful and had a management position before enrolling in college about 10 years later, followed by the MBA.
First job post MBA-the company was restructuring (3 CEO's in about a year) and my position wasn't safe. (Good move--after I left they send a bunch of the finance group across the country, and eliminated the rest). Rather than risk it, I took the job I have now, which has turned out to be different from what I was lead to believe, and as such is a bad fit for my skills, and future goals.
My goal is an analytical position that enables me to utilize my industry operating experience (corp. development or cost analytics--similar to the role post-MBA). I've included the summary as a way to explain myself, and I'm using two pages to show the logical progression from engineering to finance throughout the industry.

Drop the summary Where is your education? If you have an MBA that is significant enough to include in the resume, over the management position. Maybe you can add that you had a non traditional background in the CL, but its sort of irrelevant on the CV

Hi guys,
I was wondering if someone could take a look at this resume format and offer their thoughts on it. I'm a rising junior at a non-target interested in banking and a friend of mine that is studying design created this format for me. I'm trying to make mine stand out a little from all of the other kids applying. Is this format too non-traditional for finance? Content isn't totally complete, Im just looking for comments on the formatting. Confidential information is covered in red.

The format looks nice and I personally do not think it is too non-traditional. It annoyed me a little to read though because sentences are wrapped. Contents need more polish for sure.
Format is fine. Add some indentation or something similar between your work experiences. Also your red markings are useless because the original PDF text is selectable behind it.

Hi, I am a recent graduate who realized that I have been unhappy with what I have done with my life. Out of all my experiences, one of the few positives was that I could check them off the list. Liberal arts and volunteerism etc. made it natural for me to be interested in non-profits. So that is what I did, because it was what I was supposed to do and it was a smooth transition. However, at each NPO, museum, etc. I have worked for I got sick of the broad, abstract, unattainable goals that they strove towards. Does anyone have any advice what to do about my resume? I am interested in institutions of higher education, but see the prudence in doing something more general and honing the skills that I need to.
