Should you remove summer internship from resume if no return?

Currently a full-time IB analyst considering buy-side recruiting. Is it a good idea to remove your previous IB internship from your resume if you didn’t get a return? I don’t know if it’s worth keeping that experience on there or if it will harm me in the recruitment process. What should I say if they ask me directly about the return offer?

If you're full time already, they won't ask you about it unless you had some clearly questionable move like GS -> MM firm. If it's something like that - since you are a few years past it, it's fine to say it took you a few weeks to get used to working and the internship and just didn't get a return with that one, but [pivot to current job] you've had great reviews in your new place and have been working on some exciting deals and getting great experience.

Generally I would say keep it, unless your resume is super full with other internships even without it, it's good experience when you are this early in your career

Personally would keep it on if you have space. If you are currently a FT analyst they wouldn't care if you got a return or not since your current experience is much more important.

I didn't get a return from my SA internship, left it on my CV, and got a FT offer at a BB with no problems. If anything it could signal greater amount of work experience.

We're you networking during the summer? I didn't get a return from GS/MS and have got no hits.

Yeah networking is important - the only places I landed an interview at I had a referral for

I did SA '22, then networked throughout summer '23, then applied for FT '24 positions (I extended my undergrad course by a year for this).

I have definitely heard of some hardos who have pulled off networking during their SA summers though.

What type of firm were you originally and where did you go afterward? Just curious to see how the people who didn't get returns did.
