Spring week CV

Hello, this is my first post here, I'm a high schooler in Romania going to Bocconi University (i think semi-target or target). This summer im gonna go to 2 decent internships, one at a brokerage firm and the other at a local commercial bank. Im very interested in doing a spring week for IB in London however, I have zero leadership experience, no crazy math competition prize or really any extracurricular activity worth mentioning. My only real achievment is my 1510 SAT which i figure is kinda corny to put on a CV. Do you guys think i have close to zero chances? What activity or perhaps certification could help me maybe stand a chance?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, your situation isn't as dire as you might think. While leadership experience and extracurriculars are great, they aren't the only factors that can make your Spring Week application stand out. Here's what you can do to improve your chances:

  1. Leverage Your Internships: Highlight the skills and experiences you gain from your brokerage firm and commercial bank internships. Focus on any analytical work, client interaction, or financial modeling exposure. Even if it's basic, frame it as a stepping stone to your interest in investment banking.

  2. Certifications: Consider pursuing certifications like Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) or Wharton's online financial modeling courses. These are quick to complete and show initiative in building technical skills.

  3. Extracurriculars: Start small but impactful. For example, join or create a finance-related club at Bocconi, participate in case competitions, or even start a blog analyzing financial markets. These activities demonstrate interest and initiative.

  4. Networking: Begin reaching out to Bocconi alumni or professionals in London IB through LinkedIn. Informational interviews can help you understand the process better and might lead to referrals.

  5. CV Optimization: Your SAT score is not "corny" to include, especially since it's strong. It demonstrates academic rigor. Pair it with a well-structured CV that emphasizes your internships, certifications, and any relevant coursework.

  6. Spring Week Applications: Apply broadly to multiple banks. Some programs are more competitive than others, but casting a wide net increases your chances.

Remember, Spring Week programs are designed for students with potential, not just those with perfect resumes. Show your enthusiasm for finance, willingness to learn, and ability to take initiative, and you'll have a fighting chance. Good luck!
