What can you disclose about a deal?
Hi monkeys,
Going through recruiting now and wondering what exact details can you mention about an undisclosed deal on your CV? I've seen some threads from a few years ago but they all seem to differ in answers. Some suggest for undisclosed deals you can mention the approximate deal value, whereas others advise absolutely against it. What about for take-privates - how specific can you be - as a company's listed I'm guessing you have to be extra discreet? Can you put the region/type of business like "Computer Chip Manufacturing Company in the LATAM region"?
In addition, for interviewing purposes, can you disclose more than on your CV? Non-specific multiples/general rationale for the deal?
Thanks
Bump
I'm personally of the opinion that nothing is actually a secret in this industry. If it's not a listed company that didn't / isn't disclosing the relevant stuff (where you could actually get in trouble) anything else is basically fair game.
Thanks - what about listed companies? How generic do you have to be? As statements are public, the discussion around multiples, I think, can be quite open as one can do this analysis with public info if they want to anyway; just have to be careful about naming the company?
Anything that is available publicly (Google search, company website, equity research, credit research, Bloomberg, etc.). Anything else may reflect poorly on you.
Keep your resume on the lighter side, feel free to expand more heavily in the interview. Use your judgment, don’t tell a sponsor that may be bidding on your sell side a bunch on inside info about your client etc.
