What percentage of CVs are qualified for an IBD position and what percentage are spam? (EMEA)

Inspired by a reddit post that I was reading last night, I thought this would be a question to pose to people involved in the EMEA recruitment field given internship season is up and away.

What % of CVs that you read are qualified for an entry-level EMEA (internship) position and what % are spam?

Just for context, I was once asked to read CVs as HR was on maternity leave and I found out of 40 CVs, only 2 or 3 were reasonably qualified for a role where I was interning (lower-end ER / AM). Errors include but were not limited to:

  • Lack of formatting
  • Lack of reasonable extracurriculars
  • 3 page CVs with photos in them
  • Mixed experiences not aligned with IBD (would have been reasonable if they had done a course on accounting or modelling to make up the difference)

I'm in EMEA, hence the EMEA context. Would also be happy to hear of other areas (APAC / Americas) if there is available insight.

Would be interesting to hear thoughts.

in our firm this would change each year and it varies in each geo.

Around 20-25% are top candidates, another 10% are qualified but not top bucket.  This is a rough guide, of course. Out of the other 60-70% or so there are good candidatures as well, just not competitive enough.

again, this depends on each scenario, role, country/market, group, ... too many variables.

Porro provident recusandae non hic. Rerum et aperiam ut veniam saepe dignissimos aut. At nobis molestiae harum porro quos.
