But ppl are getting the PE interviews/offers with a little work on their own..and thats all around the country.

Every firm in houston recruits heavily for IB.. I would say 1 in 10 have their sites set on NYC (a lot less than usual, but mostly because energy IB is still cranking/looking to bulk up. I'm very impressed with the opportunities so far... the recruiting is intense but anyone who is serious about it is going to get a job this year, no doubt.

hope that helps.

1) People getting their MBAs from UT don't get offers fom PE shops. The one-off examples from the past are usually real estate PE or some tiny 3-man shop in Ft. Worth. If you're looking to get into PE, you should do it before business school. I'd be shocked if anyone w/o prior PE experience ever got a PE job out of McCombs, even at crappy $90mm funds.

2) "anyone serious" about getting an IB job will get one = definitely false. there are about 25 or so UT MBAs seriously looking for IB internships and fewer than half will actually land IB jobs. Probably closer to a quarter or a third. Thats just reality. UT didn't place 25 kids during the best of times. Certainly won't happen this year.

These are facts, so I wouldn't base your decision to attend UT on what Soundview said.

Hmm...my buddy is at McCombs....had a few interviews with the energy groups here in Houston and hasn't had any luck. Networked and is connected, still yet to land something. He wasn't as optimistic as the previous poster, and mentioned to me that most groups are only looking to add one or two associates at most. Some aren't even looking (Jefferies)..
