B-School - Seeking Advice

I'm a prospective monkey and from talking with my friends in the industry, I need to go back to school. Unfortunately, with my current job, I doubt I will have the time to develop quality applications for this application cycle. I am looking for advice on my options. I've tried to develop a quality alternate resume due to my poor, although explainable, UG performance.

  • 2.61 GPA BS Mechanical Engineering from a 'Southern Public Ivy'
  • 4.0 GPA Industrial & Systems Eng Graduate Certificate from same school (9 credit hrs.)
  • 3.8 GPA Non-degree seeking grad. eng. student at same school (9 credit hrs.)
  • 4.0 GPA Business Management for Engineers Graduate Certificate from UIUC

  • 700+ GMAT on practice tests, I will not be able to take the GMAT until December at the earliest.

  • 5 years WE with a Fortune Global 50 company as a project engineer managing multimillion dollar projects in the energy industry with quick progression for the industry and my age.

I am planning on applying to UIUC's MSF program beginning in 2013 as I anticipate it being easier to be accepted due to a certificate there (as well as applying to some other MSF programs). Then next year, apply to MBA programs with start dates in 2014. My goal school would be Booth.

Is this reasonable? Would it be better to pursue a different course? I know there is a lot of debate over MFA vs. MBA. However, I've been told that I need to show finance interest and I want to make sure I show I am capable and consistent with a quality MBA program.

everything looks good except for that 2.61. lol...you dun goofd, bro.

better pray that GMAT comes out awesome as shit, or you'll have 2 things to worry about. keep in mind those 4.0s~ are only like 18 hours which is 6 classes, while UG is like 37 classes. that's why UG is so important -- it shows how much ass you kick over a prolonged period of time.

hopefully your work experience and your graduate experience mitigate that shitty GPA.

and by southern public ivy, do you mean UT austin?
