3+2 with columbia seas vs. 4 years at barnard

hi, i am currently set on doing an economics-mathematics joint major (comp sci minor) at barnard college (which is like a low target?). however, i have the opportunity to do a 3+2 program with seas where you receive a b.s. in addition to the b.a. from barnard. if i do this, i will be majoring in applied math at seas (so b.s. in applied math and b.a. in mathematics & economics).

any advice would be helpful since i am very conflicted. is the opportunity cost of another year of college worth it for the extra degree?

Jokes aside, you should do the 3+2. Coming out of a school like barnard, you want to show quantitative skills. It also help that you have 5 years to recruit instead of 4. When you finally graduate, you can take advantage of having a columbia brand degree.

3+2. Barnard is running out of money and seas math or finance will do exponentially more for you than a barnard econ degree lmfao.

As someone 15 years out of college, I generally don’t participate in school prestige circlejerk threads but I must say Barnard brought out a real lol. Not even close in terms of school rep. Now, should you care so much about that as an HS kid? That part I’m not sure about. But degree wise SEAS will teach you many more transferable and employable skillls than some rando econ degree, regardless of school

Other people here are obviously rude as is the culture of this forum. But just being upfront, Barnard is no type of target. You'll want to get the raw, without qualifications Columbia degree on your resume. And you can fully network with Columbia alums as an equal. As a Columbia graduate I receive plenty of emails from Barnard people and neither I or my friends I am in contact with treat them as a Columbia kid reaching out but more like any other LAC
