Been put on the waiting list, is there anything I can do?

I am applying for MSF in this fall. Have been put on the waiting list for MSF @USC (the formal decision is not released but I was put on the waiting list according to my source). It is my dream school (I am an MPA at USC now and I am very comfortable to stay here). Is there anything I can do to be considered again? I had a financial analysis class (got an A) last semester but it doesn't show on my transcript, so maybe I can resubmit my transcript? Is it helpful to have a recommendation letter from the professor to teach it? A campus tour and talk to admission committee since I am at USC?

It is my dream school and I need your help.

I'm just here wondering how the hell people (esp Asians) pay for these back-to-back Master degree programs! Unless of course you're filthy rich and a professional student.

Why did you do the MPA? What the hell were you thinking? It's super funny. Sorry, lol.

There are a few things you can do that may move the needle a bit:

  1. Write the school an update letter informing them of events and activities that may make you a more attractive candidate, including the A you just got in financial analysis. Also say that USC is your #1 choice and you'll immediately accept any offer of admission.
  2. Ask your professor to submit a letter of support. It may help and certainly can't hurt.
  3. Don't deluge them with updates, but if something positive happens again in 3-6 weeks and you're still on the WL, send another update.

The key factor in getting off the waitlist is how many accepted students reject offers of admission. Obviously that's completely out of your control, but these steps may increase the likelihood that you'll be the one on the waitlist whose chosen if spots open up.
