Best BSc for IB/PE?

Specifically Bocconi BIEF vs HSG BBA vs HSG BSc Econ, or any others that you recommend. Between these three, which is the most recommended for IB/consulting in Zurich, FFM, London, maybe Paris, etc. I am an IB student, 1530 SAT, 45/45 predicted, 7/7 10th and 11th gpa. I also know good german, and a little French.

  1. Are these the three best programs for an undergrad in continental Europe for IB/PWM/Consulting? Do they lead to direct job offers in BBs or EBs in London, Zurich or FFM?
  2. Will I need a master's to enter the job market? If so, do all three of these programs allow entry into the top master's programs?
  3. In the mentioned cities, which is best for salaries, career progression, quality of life, banking culture, etc. I have heard Zurich has the highest salaries and quality of life, but is really only good for PWM and has no progression. Is this true?
  4. My goal is eventually a top career in IB, consulting, PE, maybe wealth management, but essentially I want to build as much wealth for myself as possible.
  5. Are there any other unis that you guys can recommend, because from what I've heard, these are the best.
  6. Between these three, which is the best for IB/consulting/PWM in Zurich, London and FFM. I have heard Bocconi is too theoretical, HSG Econ is only good for policy, and HSG BBA is too broad. I don't know what to think anymore, so am asking for advice here.
  7. What is the best way to get job offers from Bocconi and HSG. Is it still spring week --> Summer internship --> return offer, and how is it structured in both of these unis? How is their pipeline to high finance and consulting in London, Zurich and FFM without a Master's?

Thanks in advance for any advice, really appreciate it.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a breakdown of your options and insights into the programs:

1. Bocconi BIEF (Bachelor in International Economics and Finance):

  • Strengths: Bocconi is widely recognized as a top feeder school for IB and consulting roles in London, Zurich, and Frankfurt. Its strong alumni network, on-campus recruiting (OCR), and reputation in finance make it a solid choice. The program is quant-heavy and finance-focused, which aligns well with IB/PE career paths.
  • Weaknesses: Some consider Bocconi's curriculum to be overly theoretical. However, its placement stats and reputation in high finance counterbalance this concern.
  • Pipeline: Bocconi has a structured pipeline for spring weeks, summer internships, and return offers, especially for London roles. Its alumni network is particularly strong in London and Milan.

2. HSG BBA (Bachelor in Business Administration):

  • Strengths: St. Gallen (HSG) is a powerhouse in Europe for finance and consulting. The BBA program is broad but offers flexibility to specialize later. HSG has a stellar reputation in Zurich, Frankfurt, and increasingly in London.
  • Weaknesses: The broad nature of the BBA might require you to focus on finance-related electives or extracurriculars to stand out for IB/PE roles.
  • Pipeline: HSG has excellent connections with Zurich and Frankfurt banks, and its alumni network is growing in London. Spring weeks and internships are key to breaking into these markets.

3. HSG BSc Economics:

  • Strengths: This program is more specialized and analytical, which can be advantageous for roles requiring strong quantitative skills. It’s well-regarded for policy and research but also has applications in finance.
  • Weaknesses: It may not be as directly aligned with IB/PE as the BBA or Bocconi BIEF. However, with the right internships and networking, it can still lead to top finance roles.
  • Pipeline: Similar to the BBA, HSG’s strong alumni network and OCR support placements in Zurich, Frankfurt, and London.

Comparison for IB/Consulting in Zurich, London, and Frankfurt:

  • Zurich: HSG has the edge due to its proximity and reputation in the Swiss market. However, Zurich is more focused on PWM and lacks the career progression seen in London or Frankfurt.
  • London: Bocconi and HSG are both strong feeders. Bocconi might have a slight edge due to its larger alumni base in London.
  • Frankfurt: HSG is highly regarded in the German-speaking finance world, making it a top choice for Frankfurt roles.

Do You Need a Master’s?

  • While all three programs can lead to direct job offers in BBs or EBs, a Master’s (e.g., MSc Finance or MiM) can significantly enhance your chances, especially for London roles. All three programs are excellent feeders into top Master’s programs like LSE, HEC, Bocconi MSc Finance, and HSG’s own Master’s programs.

Salaries, Career Progression, and Quality of Life:

  • Zurich: Offers the highest salaries and quality of life but is more PWM-focused with limited progression in IB.
  • London: Best for career progression and exposure to high finance. Salaries are competitive, but the cost of living is high.
  • Frankfurt: A middle ground with good salaries, lower cost of living than London, and strong career opportunities in IB.

Other Recommended Universities:

  • LSE (London School of Economics): A top choice for IB in London.
  • Imperial College London: Strong for finance and consulting.
  • Warwick Business School: Excellent for finance roles in London.
  • ESCP Europe: Growing reputation in consulting and finance.

Best Way to Secure Job Offers:

  • Spring Week → Summer Internship → Return Offer: This is the standard path for IB roles. Both Bocconi and HSG have strong pipelines for this process.
  • Networking: Leverage alumni networks and attend career fairs.
  • Extracurriculars: Join finance societies and participate in case competitions to build your profile.
