Best College Extracurriculars for IB?

What are the best college extracurriculars to be involved in? Obviously leadership is important. I know most people join the investment club. What are some other good extracurriculars that make a resume stand out? I know it’s always best to do what interests you but what extracurricular have you seen on a resume that stands out to you?

Then work on your social anxiety, do you think bankers want to work with weirdos who can't even look them in the eye?

Honestly dude, I was in the same situation. I don't know if it was social anxiety or what, but I hated speaking to people I didn't know and thus, hating networking. Honestly, if you want to make it in IBD (and other fields in finance afterwards) being able to talk to people is such a big deal.

Just look at recruiting, it is honestly less about the resume but more about the people you speak to. A year ago I wouldn't have spoken to people I didn't know, and this year I have spoken to 60-70 people over the past few months for networking calls because of recruiting, and I have a superday coming up this week which wouldn't have been possible if I wouldn't have overcome my fear. So, definitely work on getting over the anxiety. Force yourself to speak to people if you have to, but work on it.

think what rich people like to do for fun - ski, racquet sports, lacrosse, polo, etc. This will connect to them as they likely ski and/or play tennis/racquetball/squash, plus it'll be a nice break from just finance. having a leadership role in any of these clubs at your school will be bery helpful. of course any D1 sport looks good too, but that can't really be picked up like a club sport.

"Intern in IB-M&A" ski, racquet sports, lacrosse, polo, etc.

Golf too. Most of the candidate pool is going to be in their respective investment funds and/or finance clubs. Given you master technicals and have good grades, being involved in these activities could make you personable- I can attest to this. Chances are they have some connection to it or it just makes them remember you.

How do I get rid of social anxiety? I’m also worried how people will perceive me. I’ve never been a super social person because of it. Should I just give up on finance?

The only way to get rid of social anxiety is to spend more time with people. I guess you're american, people there love to waste time "hanging out" with their friends. Talk to people, go to parties, get smashed, get laid. How do you want to close motherfucking billion-dollar deals when you can't even talk to a girl?

Of course you may feel it's impossible - that your mind is literally blocked and cannot perform normally around people. In terms of molecules, alcohol can help by making your mind numb; propanolol, a beta blocker, can suppress the physical effects of anxiety by lowering the levels of adrenaline released in your blood - you'll still have the mental effects of anxiety tho; stimulants will make you a god temporarily, yet long enough for you to understand that you can adopt the same alpha behavior while being clean.

To get rid of social anxiety you need 2 things: be self-confident, and know how people act, think and function. Work on yourself so you come to love yourself, then spend time with people you appreciate. Is your environment hindering you? Are you encircled by negative people making you feel like shit? Get rid of them, change your environment.

Any kind of SPORTS really, get your ass in the gym TODAY

SAILING is pretty hot with OLD RICH PEOPLE, SQUASH is very TYPE A IN YOUR FACEish and finally TRIATHLON or IRON-MANS and of course skiing
