Best minor degree to pair with a finance major with the intent of IB

Hi I am currently a senior in high school and seriously considering IU Kelley. If I am accepted into the Hutton Honors College I have the opportunity of taking a minor. With the intent of breaking into IB, what is the best minor to pair with finance. I was thinking econ?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, pairing a finance major with a minor in economics is a solid choice, as it complements your understanding of financial markets and macroeconomic trends, which are highly relevant for investment banking. However, other strong options to consider include:

  1. Accounting: Provides a deeper understanding of financial statements and technical skills, which are crucial for IB roles.
  2. Computer Science or Data Analytics: Enhances your technical skills, especially in financial modeling, data analysis, and automation, which are increasingly valued in IB.
  3. Mathematics or Statistics: Strengthens quantitative and analytical skills, which are essential for roles involving complex financial modeling.
  4. Foreign Language: If you're interested in global banking or working in international markets, a language like Mandarin, Spanish, or French can be advantageous.
  5. Real Estate: If you have an interest in real estate investment banking, this can provide specialized knowledge.

Ultimately, the best minor depends on your interests and career goals, but any of these options would pair well with a finance major for breaking into IB.
