KU Leuven - 2nd best b-school in Belgium behind LSM University of Amsterdam - good school but quite a bit behind RSM in Rotterdam WU Vienna - one of the top Austrian b-schools, places well in DACH region VRIJ Uni - never heard of University of Oslo - good but behind NHH KTH uni - never heard of EISTI France - never heard of ETH Zurich - incredible engineering school (the scientific areas of engineering) but unsure about finance TUM Munich - good b-school

Ok so looking at English speaking nations mainly (USA and UK), the schools mentioned are most likely weak and largely unknown (or at least seen as less prestigious as US schools) in the US. This leaves the UK. WU Vienna would probably be the best known in Europe overall which spills over to the UK. Can you add others e.g. apply elsewhere such as UK unis?

I would say ETH Zurich is the best for quant finance. It is also well known throughout Europe. There is a great cluster of finance schools in Zurich. Not sure about the rest, although, as I mentioned in the other thread, U of Oslo has a good stochastic risk masters--though the level is really high (you need a good understanding of real analysis, measure theoretic probability etc.) It places well in insurance as you can get the actuarial certification.

Perhaps it's a Swiss specific thing but QS rankings (and yes, one shouldn't rely too heavily on rankings) places RSM and WU at 15th and 22nd respectively for Finance with ETH Zurich not making the top 50. FT rankings for pre-experience MSc in Finance places RSM at 36th and none of the other schools mentioned in the top 60. Shanghai rankings places RSM 24th with ETH placing in the '51st-75th' category without specifying.

The only ranking that places ETH above RSM for Finance is the Times Higher Education which places ETH as 10th in the world. Then again, this same ranking places Columbia 14th and LSE 25th so not sure how accurate it is...

Ultimately it's your decision but I strongly believe that, out of the schools listed, RSM is better known for Finance at a European level than ETH.

Sure, but mind you, he is looking for Financial Engineering / quant finance, which is different from regular finance. I might be misinterperating his question, but those are two very different careers and require different skills. The FT and QS rankings you mentioned are traditional finance rankings. Look for sites like Quantnet and Wilmott for FinEng--sadly, not much info about European schools there.
