Better U.S. Recruitment

Out of the two schools, which one will have better recruitment opportunities from the U.S. - McGill Management or Queen's Commerce?

I heard that Americans love McGill, and McGill has that international rep to them as well but does this also apply for Desautels at McGill? I mean how is the recruitment there?

Generally Queen's Commerce is a better program, though they don't have the international reputation, would you say they are better in placing students in the U.S.? Like I heard they placed 5 3rd year students in GS IBD for the summer.

Also does your school's reputation matter when you are applying to a grad school in the U.S.?

Thanks in advance WSO.

Oh yeah? I'm trying to look for BComm undergrads from McGill that are in BBs and I can only find one. Whereas I see a couple of Queen's Comm grads. Hmm

dude you're just coming off as an insecure Queens kid... on the other hand, I'm just speaking from personal experience based on my 1) pre-existing impressions of Queens (never even heard of Queens until I came to this website), and 2) the people I've met (never met a Queens kid at a BB).

Could have a skewed POV but I go to a U.S. target and have interned at 2 BB's so take it for what it's worth and stop being an indignant idiot.

You are asking a very esoteric question that only a very thin sliver of the population know the answer to. Moreover, the people who know the answer will have either gone to Queens or McGill so you are unlikely to get an unbiased opinion. If you ask a neutral observer like me, I would choose McGill.

I grew up in Vancouver so I share (even if it is a litte bit) an affinity with Canadian bankers from Canadian schools. I have met a half dozen of bankers who did undergrad at McGill whereas I have yet to meet someone from Queens yet. Two disclaims though: First of all - it is merely my personal experience, in speaking / meeting a relatively small sample size of maybe 250 bankers; Secondly, I have no idea where McGill's Management school rank in the overall food chain (as it could either be a premier school or a second-tier program).

If you are looking for prestige, McGill definitely wins over Queens. Even for a Canadian like myself, I think the McGill brand is something you can't place a value on. Furthermore, McGill has a huge alumni network with more tentacles into the finance world. If you do a search on LinkedIn with McGill alumns at various investment banks, you will find a decent representation everywhere.

P.S. - That stat of five Queens 3rd years going to Goldman IBD is not very believable. There aren't many schools on earth that can boast of that stat and Queens is not on that calibre.

Actually he's right - Queens Commerce is sending 5 kids to GS NY this summer for SA (I believe 3 IBD, 1 SSG, 1 Research). They also sent 2 to GS NY last summer for IBD. However, GS is pretty much the extent of the US recruitment you'll get at Queen's. And it's literally the top kids at Queens who get those jobs.

US recruitment at McGill is a bit better/broad than Queens in terms of the number of US positions being recruited for.

Easy: Both are horrible for Wall Street. It doesn't help that both are a joke to get into. Go to an Ivy if you want Wall Street.

Now, if you're talking about Bay Street, then Queen's/McGill doesn't matter. Just go with whichever one you like better.
