Based on the most helpful WSO content, Bocconi University is considered a strong target school for investment banking, particularly for roles in Europe, including London. Its reputation, network, and on-campus recruiting (OCR) make it a solid choice for breaking into bulge bracket (BB) banks. However, there are some nuances to consider:

  1. Bocconi as a Target School:
Bocconi is widely recognized as a target school for BB banks, especially for Italian desks and European offices. Its alumni network and OCR are significant advantages, particularly for students pursuing finance-related programs.

  2. BSc vs. MSc for BB in London:
While Bocconi's BSc programs, such as BIEF (Bachelor in International Economics and Finance), are highly regarded, most candidates aiming for BB roles in London typically pursue an MSc after their undergraduate degree. This is because:

    • The competition for BB roles in London is intense, and many candidates have advanced degrees (e.g., MSc in Finance).
    • An MSc from Bocconi or another top-tier institution (e.g., LSE, HEC, or HSG) can significantly enhance your profile and chances of securing interviews.
  3. Realistic Expectations with a BSc:
Breaking into a BB in London directly after a BSc from Bocconi is possible but challenging. It often requires:

    • Exceptional academic performance.
    • Relevant internships (preferably in finance or IB).
    • Strong networking efforts.
    • Fluency in multiple languages (a plus for European desks).
  4. Bocconi's Strengths:
Bocconi's reputation, particularly for finance, is strong, and its graduates are well-represented in BB banks across Europe. However, many students leverage the MSc in Finance or other advanced programs to solidify their candidacy.

In summary, while a BSc from Bocconi can open doors, pursuing an MSc is often a more realistic path to securing a BB role in London. If you're set on BIEF, focus on excelling academically, gaining relevant internships, and building your network early.

You can break in for sure, it's been done. After brexit its less direct. If you land a solid spring then you have really good chances at summer but if you do an experience in Milan (smid cap, big 4 Audit/TS) then chain it with other relevant stuff, it can be a path too. There's plenty of italians in London BBs, use that network.

The easier way though is to do a MiF at a top tier target in UK after lse/lbs or continental ones that place really well in London (hec hsg escp bocconi etc). I prefer the 2 year format in the continent, gives you more chances to recruit.

If you don't get anything by the end of the bachelor then do a master at any of the target schools like hec hsg LBS escp.... Why overthink it lol
