Business School Rankings for Private Equity?
Like the title says, how would you place the top business schools in terms of chances of getting a role in PE?
Rankings online are way too general or simply focused on IB/Consulting recruiting. But for a typical IB Analyst->PE Associate that wants to do PE post-MBA, how would the rankings look like? (beyond just HBS and Stanford which obviously give you the best chance).
Elite tier: HBS/GSB Top tier: Wharton -- Gap -- Great tier: Columbia, Booth, maybe Kellogg for Chicago Good tier: MIT Sloan, Tuck, Haas for tech
My sense is if you have an IB -> PE background you'll get into one of HBS, GSB, Wharton, Columbia, or Booth. Those are the main schools PE funds will recruit at for Post-MBA positions. That said given the background you laid out, if you end up at one of the other schools above it's definitely still possible to get back into PE, you'll just have to do more leg work to get opportunities.
