Candidate says she earned a Master's in Finance from Harvard University
I call BS. I've never heard of this program. I'm not sure if I should flat out reject her resume or contact her to make her correct this error. This is fraud and it pisses me off. I'm willing to bet she went to this program:
Finance Master’s Degree Program, Online & On Campus | Harvard Extension
Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) in Extension Studies, field: Finance
Her resume isn't that good, yet this is how it starts: "Harvard-educated, innovative leader" what a crock of sh**
Reject the application and also call her out. She should know that people arent that stupid 😂
If it’s listed incorrectly on the resume that seems pretty greasy…
she’s not proud of what she actually earned & that’s not someone I’d want on my team.
Yeah it is super greasy. It was noted that way on her resume and LinkedIn.
I emailed her hours ago. I think she is avoiding me. I'm pretty damn sure she went to Harvard Extension and it could just be an online degree. What a joke.
What are you guys talking about? Get this person calculating your Adjusted EBITDA asap! This is management material here.
Thats mega tilting, I would embarrass her
On a related note, it confuses slightly more than it should when someone reaches out on LinkedIn and I see they've declared themselves "HBS alumnus" in their tagline when they've done a 2 week online course that has no exam and anyone can apply for. If I had put in all the effort to get a bachelors or masters from Harvard I'd be pretty grated that people are trying to steal my thunder like that.
Yeah I have seen this too. And then at the top of their LinkedIn profile it has the Harvard logo. Insanity.
lol someone gave you MS for that comment?
Probably a HBS 2 week Online alumnus
Similar comment for "Cambridge English Course" and appears as having attended Cambridge.
Jokes aside....how much of the blame belongs to her and how much to Harvard? When you're putting out degrees like this that are dilutive to your brand, the school is partially at fault in my opinion.
Yeah I mean I have heard these programs are cash cows, but if you attended “Harvard Extension” and state instead that your degree is from “Harvard University,” and leave out the word “Extension,” that just isn’t right.
And this is where it gets tricky. She should say "Harvard Extension" but at the same time, as soon as you start offering a degree like that, Harvard knows that some people will fudge the title. The university can't just close its eyes and pretend that this isn't happening.
They are actively engaging in brand dilution for cash and in fact, are largely selling the Harvard name for cash. How many students would attend the same program if it didn't have the word Harvard in front of it?
Yeah, it is a sticky situation. I'm not sure of the repercussions, but I guess it is on the person's own honor to preserve their own reputation.
And you're right - many students would not attend if it didn't say "Harvard."
