Case Study - How to convince bankers to grant you a loan

Hi, this is my case study question, I seek your advice in how I should go about in answering it well. Thank you very much!! :)

"You are an independent businessperson meeting with a group of bankers. You have submitted a business loan application to the Bank and have been called to explain your intended business venture.

Your task is to convince the Bank to grant the loan."

You need to convince the bank that you will pay back the loan on a timely basis. You would need to show cash flows, coverage ratios, revenue projections, etc. Basically you'd need to show them a financial pro forma showing that you can pay the loan back, and also be able to show qualitative evidence that you can meet those projections (i.e. this is a sample of my product, look how cool it is!).

hi econ, here is:

Thank u so much alexpasch.

One more thing is, how do i start as i do not have any annual reports or financial statements with me. I have to create one but i do not want to be unrealistic you see. Is it good if i download some company's report from the internet and then modify on my own? But annual reports obtainable on the net are mostly public listed companies' but the question states that i am supposed to be just a businessperson.

So, my question now is, how should i go about in creating one financial statement?

lol. okay. thank u econ :) so what do u think? how should i go about in obtaining a full set of financial statement?

I think it's hard to get loans. You might have to scratch it and offer equity.

Nope, didn't get a call from HR. On the way out HR mentioned that they'll try to let us know the outcome by Friday. Haven't got the official rejection but i'm guessing i wasn't successful.

Did you interview in singapore as well?

Sorry to hear that but do try again. Or how about other programs like the ones with BAML and P&G? My interview was conducted in Malaysia. But it was the S'pore HR who contacted me mainly because the he's been relocated to S'pore.

Congrats on getting the offer and all the best for the programme. It definitely sounds from all accounts.

BAML and p&g are closed for fresh grads from what i know, probably will try the smaller firms now.

Applied for EY advisory around end May / early June through their website. Not sure how long they take to process applications but i haven't heard back from them. No openings for associates in pwc yet, will keep a look out.

Any idea about the tax division at the big 4? They always seem to be hiring.

Tax? good. they pay higher than audit. just try applying. when they reply only you choose the one that you think is best for you. i think they should be hiring quite soon. around hmm Sept/Oct perhaps? Cuz for now audit is going off peak...again, depending on firms.
