Chances of getting into McCombs?

I was wondering what my chances of getting into McCombs Business School are. I am currently a sophomore. I go to the best private school in Texas and top 15 in the nation and my school does not rank. I have 3.9 GPA. Currently, my SAT score is 1440+ and my ACT score is 32+. My ECs are Student Alumni Association (secretary), Entrepreneurship Club (VP), Investment Club (Secretary) and Ethos Leadership Task Force. I am also on my school's newspaper that has won 14 straight CSPA Gold Crowns and NSPA Pacemakers and next year I will be the News Section Editor of it. I also have around 400 hours of Community Service and have earned the Gold Presidential Award for Community Service. This summer I plan to do a lot more Community Service. I am also in the National Spanish Honors Society and I have earned the Gold Medal in the National Spanish Exam three years in a row. Also, I have made 2000$+ selling shoes and clothing as a young entrepreneur. I am really interested in UT and getting into McCombs and the BHP. Also, I was wondering what my chances would be of getting into Wharton. Please be honest, but not mean. Thanks!

Hey Greg! Thanks for responding. I play Basketball and Tennis for the school, but I do not really do much outside of school sport wise other than a summer basketball league I do with some friends. What are some things that I should pursue in the summer to improve my chances? I was feeling kind of discouraged because I got denied from the McCombs summer program MFEA.

If you play competitive sports as well then you’ve got a pretty well rounded profile.

Are you in the target demographic for MFEA? If not, it’s not surprising that you’d get turned down as a junior but would probably have a better shot as a senior.

If you keep your grades up, I promise you’ll be totally fine. Obviously I can’t guarantee you’ll get into BHP or anything but you’re giving yourself a good shot imo.

Went ahead and sent this over to a friend of mine who might be affiliated with the admissions committee of McCombs. She suggested that your extracirricular achievements related to journalism will have significant weight in your admissions to the schools top ranked journalism program! McCombs looks for business and leadership experience first and foremost and cares less about your community service.

Make sure your application is in line with things you have posted online because inconsistencies always get negative attention. Best of luck and get those test scores up!
