Chief of Staff Stint as an Alternative to MBA for Master's degree holders in PE

If someone hypothetically had a BS in Computer Science and an MSF, then although I know that an MBA is a common choice for Associates, does doing your IB Analyst and Private Equity Associate time, and then working as a Chief of Staff (not a super EA) for 18-24 months provide the same juice to your resume, network, and skills that an MBA would?
