Confused about my future

Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting on WSO, and I hope you're all doing well. I'm currently in my fifth year at one of the top Canadian universities, studying mining engineering. With graduation approaching this December, I'm feeling quite worried and uncertain about my future, so I'm seeking some advice.

During my 16-month internships (1 year in Alberta and 4 months in Newfoundland), I realized that I don't enjoy living in remote areas and much prefer city life. While on my first internship, I decided to pursue a minor in finance, which I completed this winter. I've also scheduled to take the CFA Level 1 exam this November.

Despite my efforts, I haven't been able to secure a finance-related position yet. I'm considering a few options:

  1. Returning to an engineering role
  2. Applying for a Master of Finance
  3. Applying for a Master of Science

I tried to apply for some equity research role in the Big 5. I got the interviews but not accepted in the end because they wanted people to start now. My GPA is in the mid-3.7 range, but I'm unsure about my next steps and what to expect for my future. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Seems to me that LOTS of people in MBB, are P.Eng, especially in Calgary.
Something to consider, I know is not finance but.

Msc programs in this country with the exception of Ivey, are basically citizenship programs that you should avoid. Even Ivey, I think you are set out better with eng than a lot of those outcomes. Imo grab the p.eng then explore other alternatives.
