Dartmouth vs Duke vs Brown vs UChicago for investment banking?
Very lucky to have received acceptances/likelies from these universities. Obviously there is more to compare than just the exit opportunities these schools have into finance, but which school is the best for IB? I'm personally leaning towards Dartmouth or Duke but it seems that UChicago feeds into Qatalyst.
Thoughts?
Hi Prospect in IB-M&A, just trying to help:
More suggestions...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
The short answer is that it's a 6 vs 1/2 dozen type of decision. All are great schools and will give you opportunities at most banks/consulting firms. Folks could split hairs between all of them, but I'd pick wherever you think you're going to fit in the best. Duke and Dartmouth will be a little more social/fratty. Duke will be warmer and will have great sports. Dartmouth has a more outdoorsy and rural vibe to it. Brown is likely more liberal and granola-y if that's what you're into and U Chicago will be more academic, but also in very close proximity to Chicago, so potentially more urban. Obviously those are all generalizations, but there's a good amount of truth to all of them.
.
Chicago doesn't send as much to IB as the other 3, Chicago definitely does not have as much prestige (especially among laymen), academics is a wash among all four, college experience, all three above Chicago
Trying to rank these schools is retarded. They are all very much peer schools. Dartmouth is slightly ahead of the others in IB placement, Brown is slightly ahead in prestige (their admissions stats have always been impressive and in-line with top/mid Ivies, usnews is a shitty ranking if that’s what you’re going off of), UChicago is slightly ahead in academics, and Duke is obviously still a great school overall. There shouldn’t be any >>s when comparing these schools to each other.
For NY:
Dartmouth=Duke>Chicago=Brown
I think at this point you should just look at it from a college experience point of view. Chances are, if you couldn't break into IB from one of those schools, the problem was probably you and not the school. Pick the place you would be most happy at. I think mrharveyspecter's take one each school's culture is pretty accurate.
