Masters / MBA to support PE/HF transition from MBB

Dear all,

Reflecting on my early career,  I have come to the realization I may like to pivot to a more financially-oriented career, e.g., PE, HF roles. In this regard, I have two sets of questions.

1) Given my background (delineated below), would a pivot like this require starting from the bottom of the career ladder again? Would any associate-equivalent roles be available?

2) What degree would best support this career trajectory? Currently looking at the Oxford MFE program, MIT/Wharton MBAs. Please steer me if this a valid path or just hopeful day-dreaming.

Sincerely appreciate the feedback / input. Please give me a reality check if need be.

Background:

  • Top undergrad degree within my European country (semi-target; business / finance concentration)
  • UMM PE internship (1 year)
  • MBB (2 years with option for financial sponsorship of MBA / MSc)
  • GMAT: 665, ~710-20 equivalent

How is a GMAT of 665 a 710 to 720 equivalent?
