Difference between UVA McIntire /Non-McIntire during second year

I'm a freshman in UVA right now and about to apply for McIntire this year. (McIntire changed its admissions policy and they will accept student entering as second year from this fall), I'm a bit nervous if I can't make into McIntire.

I saw ppl on wso talking about the difference between umich ross and non ross in terms of recruiting and I'm just willing to know how different it is for McIntire kids VS non mcintire (say, econ) kids?

Thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the difference between McIntire and non-McIntire students at UVA in terms of recruiting is significant, especially for those aiming for investment banking roles. Banks tend to use McIntire as a "free screening service," meaning that McIntire students generally have a much easier time securing interviews and offers from top firms. About a third of McIntire's roughly 350 graduates go into investment banking, and the school has strong placement across BB (Bulge Bracket), EB (Elite Boutique), and MM (Middle Market) firms.

For non-McIntire students, such as those majoring in economics, the path to banking is more challenging. While it is possible to break into the industry, it often requires being more resourceful and proactive in networking. Non-McIntire students may find it harder to access the same level of opportunities and may need to target smaller regional shops initially.

Additionally, McIntire students benefit from a unique curriculum and strong alumni connections, which further enhance their recruiting prospects. However, there are examples of non-McIntire students who have successfully entered the industry, but they typically need to put in extra effort to stand out.

If you're aiming for a career in investment banking or similar fields, getting into McIntire would significantly improve your chances. Good luck with your application!
