Does going to a university's undergrad program help for admission into its mba program?
I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Chicago. Say I get hired for a major i-bank or consulting firm. If I apply to Booth business school some years later, should the fact that I went to UChicago undergrad help me in admissions? Obviously, I need to show my worth through the typical applicant evaluation metrics, but say Booth admissions is down to the last few spots and I'm still in the running. Could the fact that I went to UofC for undergrad tilt me over to the accepted pile?
It'll help. If they don't accept you, you might not donate later. Big cash loss for them.
The fact that you already go to UoC means you're pretty much set for life.
Booth loves UChicago undergrads. Have many many friends who were UChicago undergrad and went to Booth after 2-3 years. They're all very smart guys and gals, and I assume, based on the fact that you are already at the UofC and gunning for IB/Consulting roles, that you're in the same boat. Wouldn't worry about it yet though...as a sophomore, your #1 priority is positioning yourself for Summer Analyst recruitment during your junior year, so you have plenty of time to worry about whether Booth is the place for you.
To chime in on a related note...
Have you checked out the Booth Scholars Program? It's similar to Harvard's 2+2 program, whereas UChicago students apply to Booth during their senior year of undergrad, and upon acceptance, have a guaranteed spot at Booth after 2-3 years of working. I know several students at Booth who took this route. I doubt they publish acceptance rates for this program, but I'd bet it's higher than the Booth's average.
