Duke vs UMich, Advice?

I had plans to go to UMich Ross starting in the fall but recently got off the waitlist at Duke. I like the big sports scene at both, was wondering if someone could talk about the recruitment scene at both more. Looking on LinkedIn it seems like Ross actually places better than Duke. There are some places that seem to put Ross in the same tier as H/W/S (yes I know it is not from normal prestige rankings), but Duke will likely have less kids competing for banking. Are either dependent on me being in a certain club to break into EBs or top BBs?

Dude, come on. It's comments like this that make Michigan look bad.

I recently graduated from duke and had a great 4 years there. You’ll honestly get solid looks from both - I’d say go Michigan if tuition is a concern otherwise go duke. One thing I didn’t like about duke is it was way too liberal for my liking and the administration blows fat wad. No tailgating for basketball/football & crackdowns on Greek life were my top 2 problems. In that sense, Michigan would prolly be a more fun school. In terms of academics tho Duke takes the chip.

You neee to reach out to people (alumni and current students) and talk with them 1 on 1. At least go to that effort if you really care between choosing either.

Do not get your advice from online forums. As in, there’s no difference (from my or many, many points of view) so you need to do your own research where people will be biased, maybe, but honest. Also no ones gonna tell you much that you don’t already know or can’t find that exists already. Right now you need perspective , which can only come from putting some effort into having conversations with people.

Call and have some phone calls dude. Will go a long way. Maybe you’ll even make some friends or mentors. As an aside, very little difference between Duke and Ross from a placement view from where I sit and notice placements. I’ve personally ‘touched/interacted’ with more Ross kids but Very few either way tbh. Either way good luck and you can’t go wrong congrats on your offers.

They're in the same tier. They're both in that tier where it's quite doable to break into IB if you're on the ball and focus on jumping through all the right hoops in recruiting. Not as easy as the top tier, but pretty doable.

Your club question is interesting, you referring to student IB clubs? Why wouldn't you join one of those? They basically coordinate all the recruiting. Maybe you meant something else.

Bottom line, if you want IB and you're choosing between those two, choose based on other factors.. Any differences in placement are too small to matter. Consider location, personal feel, etc. You mentioned sports . . with Duke you at least know you're getting two great basketball seasons. Michigan football, I mean, what have they really accomplished lately.
