Exchange at WHU or Bocconi

Hi everyone,

First, thanks for all your contributions in the forum.

I'm currently in my penultimate year of studies in a french b-school and got the opportunity to go to WHU as an exchange student for one semester. Thus and firstly, I wanted to have your insights and opinions about the relevance of having a line on your CV with a good exchange, I mean does it really matter?
Second, I've been searching a lot through the web and WSO's topics about the duel WHU vs Bocconi and I still can't decide. I saw on LinkedIn that WHU has a really low amount of alumnis there and read on an other WSO topic that they still had good placements in IBD in Europe. Which one you think would be best for a placement in France/London & eventually NY&Asia, within the IBD/PE/VC/S.Consulting scenes -if being there for an exchange matters at all :p-?

Thanks a lot for your help guys ;)

Wtf. You should just do an exchange to Europe regardless of any job opps/placement/employment crap. Just to get belligerently drunk and travel for a semester. HEC/INSEAD for France, ESADE for Spain and Bocconi for Italy. Don't do London BC it's on a fucking island.

Even though Bocconi is well regarded in Europe, from my experience those guys tend to be quite mediocre and perhaps only CEMS students are really top-notch. I would definitely go for WHU.

WHU guy here. Just forget prestige and go where you'd have a nice time and the fact that you even consider living in Vallendar for WHU over Bocconi in Milan, amuses me. On paper Vallendar is around 10,000 people but every time you go out, you will see the same 300-400 people. For the sake of comparison Bocconi has I guess 12,000 attending, which I also think skews its employment figures. There are around 100 exchange students, mostly non Europeans who probably choose it because of great strategic travelling base location. Meanwhile, Milan, amazing nightlife and quality & quantity of girls. Depends on what sort of social life you prefer though

You are not going to land a job/interview just because you did exchange term at WHU/Bocconi. But WHU will give you good network if you plan on working in Germany someday. Not much alumni in finance because not many people interested in IBD/S&T but everyone I know who was, got interviews/offers.

PM me for more insights
