From MSc/MBA in Europe, to PE
Hello everyone,
I'd really appreciate your 0.02$ on this one: What would you do in my situation if your end goal would be to land a job in PE?
I am recently admitted for the MSc in Management at one of the top 3 Business Schools in Germany, starting in autumn. I come from Eastern Europe and I previously worked in my local Big 4 management consulting department, for around 1 year, where I was promoted from intern to full time consultant. Prior to that I did my Bachelor's degree in Economics.
From my BSc. I got a not very impressive GPA (around 3.00) and whilst working in consulting I got a low 600s GMAT score (more problematic in the verbal section).
The school also offers the possibility of doing a double degree with a US business school from which I will get an MBA degree (top 20 MBA program) but which would have me staying 3 months more in the US (and spend significantly more money on tuition and living costs)
I want to get into PE, most likely by transitioning from consulting after two years, and I would like to ask you guys what would be best way to get there:
1) I should focus on the MSc, and forget the US MBA => consulting in Europe and then transition into PE (most likely in Europe)?
2) Should I focus on getting the MSc and the MBA => consulting in Europe => PE (if would I want to continue to stay in consulting, I would not have to get a MBA degree in the middle of my career)
3) should focus on the MSc and MBA => consulting in the US => PE (US or Europe)
In addition, my German language skills are pretty bad and it would be impossible to be fully proficient in one year.
I am sorry for the long post and I hope you guys would share your opinion.
Cheers
