Georgetown MBA vs. Imperial College London MBA

Hello All,

I've been reading this forum for a while and have been working on making a transition from Investment Services (Working with a Series 7 under an advisor doing research and trading for his clients for 2 years) to Investment Banking in a major city. I have two options that I am considering and I need to choose in one week.

Option 1: A one year program at Imperial College London Option 2: A two year program at Georgetown in DC

From what I've read, both schools offer some good opportunities to get in front of hiring teams at major IB's. I'm somewhat worried about doing a one year program becuase I will be depending pretty heavily on gaining summer internship experience. I don't see how a bank will be seriously considering me for an associate position without at least some internship experience at an IB. BUT, being in London is more appealing to me than being in DC.

If anyone who has worked in a London IB or has insight into my situation can offer their advice, I would truly appreciate it.

Georgetown MBA offers a pretty good chance at IB, just look at their employment report. I applied to several programs this past year and Georgetown was one I considered. I'm not as familiar with Imperial but like you said, the 1 year program will make it tough to intern and gain the experience - I worked at a BB in IB and can tell you that all of the incoming associates in my group came from internships.

Also, Georgetown is pretty respected in the US as a top 20 school if you decide to leave IB later on, Imperial not as much because people are just not as familiar.
