I was just wondering what people thought about Georgetown's MSF program. It's a hybrid online/ in-person program that's relatively new. The MSF professors are mostly teaching MBA courses as well so it's not like you get second rate lectures. Plus I think the Georgetown's name recognition goes a long way because the employment figures are really impressive (Graduates with 0-3 years of experience had a 100% employment rate within 6 months of graduation and the average base was $100,000).
I've overall heard some great things about the program but some negatives too. I know it's a bit expensive for one, but I received a substantial scholarship so it's not too bad for me. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated guys.
Look up MSFHQ, WSO user blank999 runs it if i'm not wrong.
plenty of threads on this and other MSF programmes on there
Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I just wish there was more info on WSO/MSFHQ about MSB's MSF. I think part of the issue is that it's relatively new, plus the hybrid element, so people don't really know what to make of the program yet. I can find a ton of info on Vanderbilt or USC for example, but info on MSB's MSF is much harder to find.
Well, if you decide to go then definitey keep us updated on how the programme was for you, are you an international student or an american citizen?
Another thing you can do is to try and hit up alumni on linkedin, you will have to network anyways, this is just building a relationship a bit earlier.
Ok I definitely will. I'm an American citizen but I did my undergrad in Ireland. Part of the reason why I feel I need to do an MSF is because my ugrad school is very underwhelming. I did really well there but there's zero name recognition. I think having MSB on my resume would at least help in that regard.
You're right, LinkedIn is another solid recommendation, thanks
Know people who came out of there. Depends on your current situation - people on this forum have unreasonable, god like standards and are currently out raising money for their 4th fund as a rising Senior at Wharton. I think you have no reason to come out and go into a boutique IB in any city (NYC obviously being the toughest). If you went to a solid Tier 2 school with Georgetown MSF, then you could definitely break into IB as an Analyst but will obviously take a lot of work but is attainable and I know people (solid 2nd tier undergrad) who have got into bulge bracket IB. I do think people will care about your undergrad and prior experience, if any, though. Suck it up for a year or two and target a DC or southern based IB internship/analyst position - do a year or two there then lateral to another IB where you ideally want to live long term.
Thanks for the reply. When you say "I think you have no reason to come out and go into a boutique IB in any city" do you mean I should have no problem coming out of MSB's MSF and getting a boutique IB role? Sorry, just want to clarify.
In terms of w.e, there's a summer period between the two terms in MSB's MSF. So I think that's a great opportunity to do a summer internship/analyst, since most companies seem to only offer SA's to current ugrads or graduate students.
And I have no issue starting at a boutique or MM and working my way up. I'm honestly more concerned with enjoying what I do and the people around me, than I am about prestige and monetary gain
Yes that's what I mean. To be clear - start the process today for an internship and don't stop working hard at it until you get it. Buy Breaking Into Wall Streets Interview Guide and study it until your eyes fall out. Network. Reach out to alumni. MSB has a great career center - know who comes on campus for recruitment and constantly bug the people in the career center.
