Getting a NP and top-tier MBA Admissions
Hi everyone! I'm an undergrad sophomore and because I was really sick the day of my linear algebra/diff eq.'s test, I completely BOMBED the midterm (scored way below average) and I've decided to P/NP the class.
At this point, I seriously think I'll end up getting an NP in the class just because my prof is especially harsh in terms of curving. This is the 1st class I've P/NP'ed and the only class I will be able to. I know MBA admissions really likes students to do well in quant classes. I got A+'s in the harder versions of my university's (top 20) Calculus I and Calc II class and pulled an A in Multivariable as well. So I can do math but I just got super unlucky this semester :(
I'm just wondering how an NP will look towards MBA admissions. My overall GPA right now is about a 3.96 and the math class I'm P/NP'ing is not at all in my major.
I've dropped a mathclass before and it's on my transcript--very busy schedule plus a visiting prof just can't let me make it. I think that may look worse than your transcript. But So far, I don't see anyone (employers, grad schools) being concerned about it---I just took more math classes and had many A in them.
But if you're not a quant major, that can be different--meaning that you need either high GMAT or other high level math class to back it up
You're fine.
Schools look for "Trends" more than anything (e.g. bad at math). If you have A's in all your other math classes, and do well in quant on the GMAT, they won't care about that one class.
It won't matter as long as the rest of your profile is solid. I left my first undergrad after 2 years with a GPA under 2.0. Still got in to an M7. Was also placed on further consideration at HBS. One NP ain't gonna mean nothin'.
Wow, a lot of misinformation here. OP, you are absolutely screwed. They will see you are less than perfect even with that 3.96 GPA. The only way to make it up is with a 790 GMAT MINIMUM.
He/She'd do better shooting for 810+.
