[GMAT] Need advice on TTP approach

Hey all,

I am currently preparing for my GMAT using TTP. So far I have completed around 9% of the course on Expert+ track (Q+DI+V) but with only 2months left of studying I have to consider more time-effective options:

Option Nr.1.: Only do Quant + DI on Expert+ and Verbal via other resources like OG

Option Nr.2: Do Quant + DI + Verbal on Expert without really considering any other resources

Which option is preferable (Goal is ~90th percentile)? I heard that the Verbal part is not the best, is this still the case? If yes, how should I learn for verbal using other resources?

Thanks for any insights - highly appreciated!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and recommendations for your GMAT preparation:

Option 1: Only do Quant + DI on Expert+ and Verbal via other resources like OG

  • Quant and DI: Focusing on Quant and Data Interpretation (DI) on the Expert+ track can be beneficial, especially if you find these sections challenging. The Expert+ track is likely to provide more in-depth and rigorous practice.
  • Verbal: For Verbal, using the Official Guide (OG) is highly recommended. The OG resources are considered more accurate and reflective of the actual GMAT questions. Many users have found that practicing with GMAC practice problems is crucial, as other resources might not align well with the GMAT's style.

Option 2: Do Quant + DI + Verbal on Expert without considering other resources

  • Comprehensive Approach: This option allows you to follow a single, structured course for all sections. However, if the Verbal part of TTP is not as strong, you might not get the best preparation for that section.

Recommendations for Verbal Preparation:

  • Official Guides: Use the official guides for Verbal preparation. They provide the most accurate representation of the GMAT questions.
  • Practice Areas: Focus on specific areas within Verbal where you need improvement, such as Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, and Sentence Correction.
  • High Verbal Scores: Achieving a high score in Verbal can significantly boost your overall GMAT score. Aim for the 95-99% percentile if English is your first language.

Additional Tips:

  • MGMAT Books: The Manhattan GMAT (MGMAT) books, especially for Sentence Correction, can be helpful. However, prioritize GMAC practice problems to avoid practicing with potentially less accurate materials.
  • Study Plan: Set a clear deadline and create a study schedule that includes regular practice and review sessions. Consider taking one day off per week to avoid burnout.
  • Practice Tests: Use official GMAT Prep CATs for practice exams to get a realistic sense of your progress and areas needing improvement.

Conclusion:

Given your goal of achieving around the 90th percentile, Option 1 might be more effective. Focus on Quant and DI with the Expert+ track and use the Official Guide for Verbal preparation. This approach leverages the strengths of each resource and ensures you are practicing with the most accurate materials for the GMAT.

Good luck with your preparation!
