Going from Tier 1 -> Tier 1.5 School for Msc Finance
I'm graduating this year with a humanities BA at Oxbridge. I decided quite recently that I'd rather be rich than work for the UN (don't we all), and therefore am applying to Finance/Management Masters in Europe. I've ruled out the UK for financial reasons (almost certainly out of the question unless I take a year out and somehow save up at least 30k), and I'd rather do a two year course b/c I have minimal relevant work experience. I'm also a non-EU student, which means 1. I can't stay in the UK and get experience post-degree 2. I need to be sponsored for any summer internships/jobs. My preference would be to work in IBD in London but if visa issues don't work out I wouldn't mind continental Europe, Hong Kong etc. (not Chinese unfortunately). I know its difficult but not unheard of for non-EU non-Tier 4 students to get internships/jobs in London.
I was wondering how recruiters would view my educational background - would it be a negative that I 'went down a tier' for my masters? Would my standing improve at all for applications? Or am I better off trying to get off-cycle experience? (most likely not in London)
Not entirely relevant, but also wondering if paying almost 20k a year for HEC MiM is worth it if I can go somewhere like Bocconi for free (and possibly with stipend if I get a government grant). I don't think HEC is v generous with funding, even as an Oxford grad with 760 GMAT?
TL;DR, non-EU Oxbridge humanities graduate -> should I do a finance masters in Europe or am I better off trying to get internships?
