HEC Paris or ESADE

As an American who after he graduates would like to work in America would it be a waste of my time to go to HEC Paris or ESADE for a master in finance or mba? WOuld American companies recognize these are good schools? Also would it be possible to get a job in Europe as an American or do companies prefer to go with people from the EU to avoid visas and stuff

 

HEC Paris is very much a target school throughout Europe. Their placements are impressive and I am sure you will get a solid position following graduation. I havent heard of anyone gaining a placement back in the US following business school in Europe but doesnt mean it hasnt happened.

I think you're best shot would be to work in a European office of an American company and hope to transfer back.

In terms of visas, it is becoming much harder to gain work visas within Europe. Not sure of figures across various other EU states, but in the UK, rules have become very strict.

For the most part, the top three schools for graduate IBD/Markets recruiting will be LBS, IESE and INSEAD. HEC/Bocconi/Said etc. will obviously also have people coming through but it seems the majority come from those three. Keep in mind that people from the US MBA schools also come to London.

Being an American who previously worked in M&A stateside then did an MBA in Europe, I would say that after going to one of these schools, the large BB's don't care as much as to whether they need to issue a visa, they just want to make sure that if they do... you will stay there and not jump location back to the US.

As far as recruiting for the US goes, that is something that you will have to tell HR upfront upon you meeting them at the career fairs etc. If staying in the US is 100% your objective than I would recommend for you to stay domestic, as your network from the MBA will be much more useful.

ESADE is stronger in marketing and entr. - I would highly recommend taking IESE or HEC over ESADE.
