Help Me decide on college Syracuse Vs Rutgers
I recently got accepted into both Syracuse and Rutgers university with a major in economics. Rutgers would be about 60 grand a yr and Syracuse about 90 grand a yr. I currently am at a stand still and was wondering which college would be better suited to help me find a job in the future.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, Rutgers would likely be the better choice in your situation. Here's why:
Cost Efficiency: Rutgers is significantly cheaper at $60,000 per year compared to Syracuse's $90,000 per year. This difference in cost could save you $120,000 over four years, which is a substantial amount that could reduce financial stress post-graduation.
Proximity to NYC: Rutgers has a strong advantage due to its close proximity to New York City, a major financial hub. This proximity can provide better networking opportunities, easier access to internships, and a stronger connection to Wall Street firms.
Recruiting and Alumni Network: While neither school is considered a "target" for top Wall Street firms, Rutgers has a decent business program and a solid alumni network in the Northeast. This can be leveraged for job opportunities, especially in finance or economics-related fields.
Return on Investment (ROI): Given the lower cost of attendance at Rutgers, the ROI is likely to be better. You'll graduate with less debt, which is crucial when starting your career.
In summary, Rutgers offers a more cost-effective option with comparable opportunities, especially given its location near NYC. Unless Syracuse has a specific program or unique offering that aligns with your career goals, Rutgers seems like the smarter choice.
