High School senior introduced to this website and needs help

Hey all,

I would like to briefly introduce myself. My name is Eric, and I am currently a high school senior trying to figure out his life. My friend (M28), suggested that I check out WallStreetOasis, and I guess here I am now. But, beyond this is just a bubble of ignorance and uncertainty, so excuse me.

I love trading and I’ve been in this part of the finance industry for almost a year now. Yes, I know, even though I’m 17; but, I trade under my father’s name. Part of my trading success is greatly attributed to my eleventh grade Environmental Science teacher and he taught me broad macroeconomics. I’ve never met anyone as massive a brain as him, and had no clue how a Stanford undergrad came to teach in an underprivileged and under-resourced school from the other side of the nation, and yet there he was. However, he retired pretty much this year in his 30s, and I’ve only been able to keep in touch with him through emails.

As for trading, it was kind of eff around & find out, and I realized how to trade under high-impact news events, FOMC meetings, earnings report, employment data, fundamental and technical analysis (only support & resistance), and company-related events.

This isn’t that important and it’s not what I’m hoping to gain from this thread, but here is a brief summary of what I trade from beginning to now: began trading with blue-chip companies such as $AAPL, $AMZN, $MRO, $SPY, $BABA (had no idea what I was getting to at the time when I first began), and I ventured more into 3x leverage positions such as $NRGU/$NRGD, $TQQQ/$SQQQ, and others. Currently, I trade options with SPY straddles and I have a long-dated put on $TSLA.

College applications are coming to an end soon, and with this time I have after the fall semester, I’m looking for potential internships (NYC). The direction I want to head is financial advising– corporate finance and personal finance, and continue trading on the side, only that I don’t have a slightest clue in what the initiatives I should take. I’m all alone on this one because I don’t have any networks/connections and I’m a first gen.

What advice do you have for a teenager that is going this route? Nothing shallow such as “finish school” or “focus on graduating” please.

Most of the roles you described would never allow you to "continue trading on the side" due to compliance risk.

Best advice which exists is to pls focus on graduating. Unless you are URM you most likely wont get an internship of any note your first summer regardless, and so it would be expected that you keep a high GPA going into 2nd and 3rd years.
