IB Recruiting – School Prestige Less Relevant at Screening, More at Interviews?
Hi WSO,
I’ve been looking into some recruiting data and wanted to raise a quick point:
While business school prestige definitely helps at the CV screening stage, the differences between candidates from different schools often appear to shrink significantly at that point.
What really seems to make the difference is during the interview phase, where candidates from top schools often perform better — possibly due to more structured preparation, stronger peer groups, or mock interview culture.
This raises a few questions:
Do you agree that the screening filter is less exclusive than people assume?
Have you seen examples where school mattered more in performance than in getting the interview?
Do interviewers implicitly expect more from certain school backgrounds?
Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.
