ICADE: E3 vs E2

Hi everyone,

I’m pretty much set on attending ICADE next year, but I’m facing the eternal dilemma between E-3 (Double Degree in Business + Law) and E-2 (Business Administration). My ultimate goal is Investment Banking (IBD), ideally in London, although I’m not ruling out starting in Madrid and then doing a lateral move.

I understand the basic differences, but I’d like your opinion on their real value in today's job market:

• E-3 (5 years): I know it’s the "crown jewel" and its prestige in Spain is second to none. The "signaling" regarding work ethic and capacity is massive, but I’m afraid that 50% of the degree (Law) might be "filler" for the day-to-day in banking and might take away time from what actually matters.

• E-2 (4 years): This appeals to me because I’d graduate a year earlier and, above all, it allows for more electives in finance, modeling, and technical specialization that don't fit into E-3 due to credit constraints.

My questions are:

1. Do recruiters in London and Madrid actually value the E-3 double degree, or do they prefer someone from E-2 who is a "technical crack" and has had an extra year to complete internships?

2. Looking at LinkedIn profiles, I see many MDs and seniors who did E-2, but I’m not sure if that’s just because the market was different back then.

3. Is the extra "suffering" of a Law degree worth it if I have no intention of ever stepping foot in a courtroom or a law firm?

I’m looking for opinions from people within the industry or ICADE alumni who have seen how the selection processes at Bulge Brackets (GS, MS, JPM, etc.) work.

Thanks!
