Importance of past vs current employer

Hi mates,

Disclaimer:
First off this is NOT a "can I get into X,Y,Z B-school" thread. All else constant, I'm looking for input regarding how a potential jump to another firm would impact (negatively or positively) my competitiveness.

Situation:
I currently have 2 years of experience with a consulting firm (Accenture/Booz Allen/Deloitte Consulting/PwC) and plan to work an additional 2 years before matriculating into (hopefully) a top 10 MBA program.

Recently, I've been approached by 2 of the above firms with offers. While it pains me to use this word (especially since many would give their first born son to work at any of the above), the offers come from slightly less "prestigious" firms. However, I'd be joining at the post-MBA level, which I feel would allow me to demonstrate more responsibility/leadership potential.

Question:
I see things like "top feeder companies" into X,Y,Z B-school, and am unsure if this means the last company that the candidate worked with OR they worked there at any point prior to B-school.

Are adcoms concerned with when (in your timeline of past experience) you worked at said top feeder company, or do they just care that you demonstrated the ability to get into and succeed at said firm?

I appreciate all input!

TwoThrones:

They look at all of your companies on your resume. So you have the Deloitte/PwC/Accenture on your resume, that's good enough. Plenty of people work at Goldman or McKinsey then go to a no name startup. They've already proven themselves just as you did.

Thank you for the response.

However, in my situation I work at one of the three you've listed and am jumping to another one of the three. Are those firms close enough in reputation that I shouldn't be concerned?

No pain, no pain.

PM me with the specific firm names. But my first reaction is that you should be fine, especially if you're moving to your new firm in a post-MBA role.
