Is a Master in Business enough?
Hi, im a European Highschool Graduate wanting to pursue a Career in Tech or Business. I am interested in both Computer Science and Business/Management. Due to a Double Degree being so highly challenging i was wondering if either a Bachelor in Business then CS Master or the other way around would be enough to break into both industries. I do not want to do IB, however i want to be able to take a high level Business or CS job(or Management in Tech Company etc.)
What is your advice? Cheers :)
Saying you want a career in tech or high level business (in all honesty not even sure what that means) is a bit like saying that you want to be a scientist when you grow up. In reality there are hundreds, if not thousands different types of scientists.
At least in the U.K., business degrees are kind of meh and are looked at as the easiest to get a first (the highest grade in the U.K.) in compared to other business school degrees such as economics/accounting & finance/PPE. Don’t really know anyone that went into tech after a business bachelors, or IB/respectable finance. You could probably get into a decent MSc in finance afterwards, but probably not CS (although maybe someone can correct me on this one). But for example something like BSc maths (with some finance modules thrown in for finance MSc) will definitely be a very strong foundation for both a tech and a finance masters.
I would recommend trying to understand what interests you, what motivates you, what you want to achieve in life, etc. Then, writing down things you are good at, and trying to work out which roles suit both of these best. Maybe try reaching out to friends/family/distant acquaintances who are doing similar things. Try to understand their path. I would literally spend hours going through LinkedIn profiles, trying to follow the following logic: the industry I want to work in is X; Company Y is the best in industry X; graduates that went into company Y are from United A & B, and they studied C & D. There are also bound to be articles/YouTube videos on this!
It will take a little while to research & understand, but will definitely be worth it! Good luck!
