LBS MFA vs Oxford MFE

Hi all,

I've been lucky enough to receive offers from both the LBS MFA and the Oxford MFE, and I'm now trying to decide between them. Looking for honest input in order to help me decide.

My main goal post-graduation is to recruit directly into IB or PE in London - ideally bulge bracket / elite boutique on the banking side, or a mid/large-cap PE fund. So my two core questions:

1. Which programme has the stronger placement into London IB/PE for someone targeting full-time roles (or SA first if necessary) straight after graduation?

2. What's the student experience actually like? From my understanding, LBS is in central London with a more social, MBA-adjacent vibe, while Oxford is a proper campus/collegiate experience but more removed. How do these programs position you for having fun/making friends outside the classroom and library? What does a usual day look like?

Some points to consider:

Oxford MFE is quite academically intensive
LBS MFA lets you do a 4th term to make you eligible for summer internships. Could be key, particularly if you feel like your profile lacks in this area
Oxford MFE classes are smaller and place very well, especially if you already have relevant internships since you wouldn't have to worry about not having the expected work experience to land an off-cycle or FT role
Because it’s in London and less demanding, the MFA could potentially be more social, like you said. I don’t know how it compares with Oxford’s campus experience, though, especially given that it’s still an intensive one-year programme
This is more subjective and anecdotal but from what I've seen on this forum pretty much every time this question is asked Oxford MFE is considered a better programme, at least when assuming the candidate has enough relevant experience
