Looking for MBA School Recommendations

Hi monkeys, I'm starting to look at potential MBA programs (US only), planning to matriculate in 2021. Here's my profile:

  • American female
  • Went to large medium-tier school known for its business program (think UT, UNC, IU, UIUC) - 3.75 GPA. Accounting and Finance
  • Currently working at a large tech firm in corporate finance (Google, Amazon, FB, Apple). Promoted twice in 3 years - this is my first job out of college
  • Decent EC both in and outside of college (research, club prez, company-sponsored involvements), still volunteering and doing some alum stuff
  • GMAT - 740
  • Perhaps my biggest "in" - I've worked abroad for the past two years with my company. started in their US HQ but moved abroad to get more interesting experience

Since not many people in my network are applying for MBA, and I'm currently working outside of America, I'm not quite sure which school fits my profile. I'm looking to use this degree to "return" to the US and further my career. Wanting to work in startups/incubators after. I'd like to go to the best school possible :) thanks for your help!

You have a very strong profile, I would target the m7s and Haas.

If you can tie together all your WE to your post-MBA goals and why each specific program is going to get you there,  you'll be in very good shape.

As for ECs, the college ones aren't super important in your MBA app as you graduated a while ago. Would focus on your current/recent ECs.

Another consideration is where (location) you want to be post-MBA.

The earlier you apply, usually the better chances you have and more potential scholarship offered.

Good luck!

Would second this.  One question I have (and pardon the ignorance, as I'm less familiar with the structure of these companies) is the corporate finance team that you work with more on the strategy side of things (FP&A) or hard finance / accounting.  Basically, what is the background of the senior people within your team?

Overall, profile seems quite strong and should be competitive at all top 7 schools. Can add in Haas/Tuck/Yale if you want to play it safe.

You have an impressive profile and should aim for top programs. With a good application your chances of acceptance are strong.

Consider HBS, Stanford, Wharton, MIT Sloan, CBS, Booth, Kellogg, and Haas.  I wouldn't recommend you apply to safety programs this year. (I understand that you have 3 years of full-time work experience)

One suggestion: When discussing your post MBA goal, it's OK to say you want to work in start-ups/incubators, but also be ready to discuss why and the impact you want to have in those roles. Obviously the exact nature of the question and length limits will determine how much detail you can go into.

"the best [T15] besides M7" has long been considered to be Tuck.

And then Haas & Yale (not sure how they fare against each other).

Other T15s come after those 3 (generally). Of course, location and industry factors should be considered when comparing programs of the same tier. It's not black and white.
